What is an Axolotl?
They are feared extinct in the wild. It is unknown how many are left in captivity.
Ambystoma mexicanum, aka the Mexican walking fish. But don't be fooled! The axolotl is not a fish, but an amphibian. They are an unusual type of amphibian in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis, meaning they cannot survive on land and are bound to water.
According to the IUCN Red List, the axolotl is critically endangered.
